The most beautiful ship in Italy will arrive in Puerto Vallarta

PUERTO VALLARTA, Jal., May 31, 2024.- The Italian Navy’s training ship Amerigo Vespucci – named after the Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci – will dock in Puerto Vallarta this June; this as part of the second stage of a round-the-world trip that began in June 2023, combining this feat with its traditional activity of training naval cadets.

This was announced by the Italian ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Modiano, during his recent visit to this destination at the head of a diplomatic delegation also made up of Tommaso Coniglio, political advisor and deputy head of mission, as well as defense attaché Andrea Intermite.

Recognized as one of the most beautiful ships in the world, the ship was designed in 1930 by Francesco Rotundi and has served to train officers, non-commissioned officers and transalpine sailors. It is 101 meters long and 15.5 meters wide with a capacity for approximately 400 sailors; it weighs 4 thousand tons that are propelled by up to 26 sails distributed among its three masts – the largest being 50 meters high – although the vessel also has diesel engines.

The Italian embassy, ​​in coordination with the Mexican Navy, is organizing the activities to welcome the ship in Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday, June 18. That day and the following day, protocolary events are scheduled with Mexican authorities from the three levels of government, in which the presence of high-ranking Italian officials is expected.

On Thursday, June 20, visits for the community will begin, dedicating that day to students from different schools. There will also be a scientific conference by specialists from the University of Guadalajara and a program of tourist activities for the crew of the Italian ship.

On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd, the ship will be open to the general public, with groups of up to 50 people starting at 10am. Ambassador Modiano said that this is his main objective, for people to get to know this ship during their stay, which will end on Sunday 23rd, when it will set sail for its next stop.

Luis Villaseñor, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, commented: “It is an honor for the destination to have been chosen for this visit; this is a sign of the great reputation that Puerto Vallarta has worldwide, where our Italian guests will experience the best of Mexican hospitality.”
