San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- Mauricio Trejo Pureco has been confirmed as the elected municipal president of San Miguel de Allende after the total recount of the votes. With 486 more votes than the Morena candidate, Trejo Pureco is heading to his third term at the head of the San Miguel de Allende government.

In the tightest election in the history of San Miguel de Allende, Trejo Pureco obtained 26,274 votes, surpassing by a margin of 0.6% the Morena candidate, Osvaldo García, who obtained 25,788 votes. The total recount of the ballot boxes validated these results in a process that lasted more than 40 hours.

“An election is won by a single vote. I already put the votes aside, it was a crowded and close election, an election where there were two very clear proposals (…) and the people decided to continue along this path,” said Mauricio Trejo.

Trejo Pureco was pleased and satisfied with the results, stating that there is no greater privilege than being mayor of San Miguel de Allende and that he will work hard to meet the expectations of all citizens.
