The activist of the National Regeneration Movement was elected after the elections of June 2

Following the elections on Sunday, June 2, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo became the first woman to be elected to the position of President of the Republic, a position that for more than 200 years was only headed by men.

The activist of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) is set to succeed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), unless the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) finds any contradiction in the results framed by the National Electoral Institute (INE), a president who came to power with the conviction of reducing the salaries of high officials.

The so-called republican austerity was one of the central axes of the federal administration, with it they sought to reduce public spending and, instead, invest the budget in transcendental works or in increasing social programs, which is why not even the president’s salary increased considerably in recent years.

The salary of the next president of Mexico would be very similar to what was established by the Federal Expenditure Budget (PEF) for 2024. According to this, AMLO in his last year of government received 186 thousand 93 pesos of gross monthly salary; however, in net terms the Mexican president receives 121 thousand 549 pesos, this after the withholding of taxes.

This figure increased by 6.9% compared to 2023, because he earned 174 thousand 26 pesos, so it is expected that the figure earned by the former head of Government of Mexico City may increase for 2025, since it is worth remembering that since September the budget package for the following year begins to be analyzed.

The salary of the person who heads the Federal Executive has the following benefits (taking into account the 2024 budget):

Biweekly bonus (for seniority) of 235 pesos;
Food assistance for 1,335 pesos;
Collective retirement insurance for 35 pesos.
The only benefit that had an increase was food assistance, which was increased to 140 pesos compared to last year.

Other benefits that President López Obrador currently has are an annual budget for food and travel expenses, this through the Office of the President.
