Between both states, there are more than 3,335 contracts signed for public works since 2019.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has had, during his government, favorite states to build. Beyond the flagship works, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) signed 3,335 contracts for public works from 2019 to 2024 in Oaxaca and Tabasco, making them the entities where the most construction was done, according to information from the National Transparency Platform.
Oaxaca was positioned as the number one state, with 2,122 projects, which are mostly classified as rehabilitations of highways and rural roads. The outstanding works were the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, which although it was started 20 years ago, was inaugurated this 2024.
There is also the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway, whose opening is still pending. According to AMLO, this is because it is 64 kilometers longer “and the work is much more complicated, many more tunnels, bridges and viaducts.” The opening is planned for August 31.
The birthplace of the country’s president, Tabasco, follows with 1,213 works. In this case, the typology of the works is repeated and, although the state is in second place, three stations of the Mayan Train pass through it, the work to which the federal administration has given the most resources.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Claudia Sheinbaum’s proposals in infrastructure, viable?
The year in which there were the most signatures for projects in the entity was in 2021, with 568. During this period, the inaugurations of improvements to asphalt pavements in tourist areas stood out, because the efforts of the federal and state governments focused on pushing this vocation.
The state has not only stood out in road and rail infrastructure. The energy sector also stood out with Dos Bocas, a Pemex refinery. This set of projects has increased employment among young people and changed the economic dynamic, promoting, for example, the sale of homes.
These two entities represent 39% of the projects carried out throughout the country through SICT during the current administration. In third place, far behind Oaxaca and Tabasco, was Michoacán, with 472 signed contracts, and Puebla with 313.
