The National Institute of Statistics and Geography and Informatics (Inegi) announced the average salary that the population considers necessary to be able to live in each state of the country. In addition to releasing other indicators such as the level of financial stress.
How much is the average monthly income required in Mexico?
The National Survey on Financial Health (Ensafi) 2023 presented by Inegi revealed that the adult population considers that a monthly income of 16,421 pesos is necessary to cover their expenses.
Among women, the estimate was 15 thousand pesos while for men it was 18 thousand pesos.
By federal entity, Ensafi showed that the inhabitants of Mexico City indicated that they require a higher average income of 29,500 pesos and the state of Nuevo León revealed that the average income is 23,500 pesos.
The states that followed this pattern are Coahuila with 21,900 pesos, Colima with 21,500 pesos and Aguascalientes with 21,000 pesos.
In contrast, people living in Chiapas indicated that the average is seven thousand pesos and Tlaxcala, with eight thousand pesos to cover their expenses.

30.5% of the population surveyed revealed that during the last month they did not have enough money to cover their expenses without going into debt. While in financial security, 45.9% reported that they almost never or never have money left at the end of the month.
In addition, 34.6% expressed having little or no capacity to face unexpected expenses.
Of the population, 53.2% kept some kind of record of their income and expenses. This practice was more common among women than among men, 54.4 and 51.8%, respectively. Of the total percentage, 32.8% considered keeping their expense record.
Regarding spending habits, 14.4% admitted that they preferred to buy rather than save and, similarly, 13.8% stated that they always or almost always spend the money they have instead of saving it for unexpected expenses.
Mexicans experience financial stress and impacts
The same survey revealed that the population experiences stress and other health problems when facing financial situations. 38.8% indicated feeling a lot of concern when asking for a loan.
45.4% said they worry a lot about unexpected expenses and 48.4% about the accumulation of debt.
Based on this problem, 34.9% reported experiencing some physical consequence such as headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, changes in blood pressure.
While 30.7% mentioned suffering psychological impacts such as sleeping or eating problems.
