On Monday morning, in the city of Colima, Martha Verdía, daughter of the former leader of the Ostula self-defense forces, Cemeí Verdia Zepeda, was murdered in the municipality of Aquila. The crime was perpetrated by two men on a motorcycle. The 19-year-old girl was riding a pickup truck with tinted windows, police sources reported.

At the intersection of Aguascalientes and Jalapa streets, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the attackers approached the vehicle in which the girl was traveling, then fired repeatedly. Her father went to the scene of the crime and identified her.

Cemeí Verdia led the self-defense group in the Nahua area between 2013 and 2015. After the armed civilian group split up, Cemeí went to live in the neighboring state of Colima, after surviving two attacks. Since then, she has lived off of fruit farming. There are those who link Cemeí to a criminal group from Jalisco, an accusation that no authority has confirmed.
