The Mexican Navy regrets the death of a cadet from the military naval school, who lost his life after his parachute did not open after jumping from a helicopter.
The SEMAR expressed its condolences to the family and friends of Cadet Velázquez: “We know that there are no words of comfort that can help lessen such great suffering; however, we hope that the wake of Honor, Duty, Loyalty and Patriotism that guided his journey in our Institution contribute to magnifying his memory and exalting a young life dedicated to the well-being of Mexicans,” the statement reads.
The Navy noted that with the death of the cadet, the country loses a son and his comrades in arms a friend.
“For those of us who live in the service of the Nation, we know the risks that our work entails, so when we leave we know that our name will never be forgotten, because like a wake in the sea it remains as an example of dedication, bravery and pride for our Mexico,” the statement reads.
The unfortunate accident was captured with the help of a cell phone by one of the instructors. In the images, a group of parachutists can be seen jumping from the top of a helicopter. Unfortunately, Cadet Velázquez’s parachute did not open and he fell into the void, dying instantly.
