At the Rincón de Tamayo campus of the College of Scientific and Technological Studies of the State of Guanajuato (Cecyteg), a touching story about a stray dog has captured everyone’s attention. ‘Canelo’, a brown Chihuahua, arrived at the facility two years ago in search of food and found much more than that: love and a home.

José Ricardo Elguera, director of the Rincón de Tamayo Cecyteg, shared how ‘Canelo’ won the hearts of students and teachers: “We constantly get dogs that come to eat, but ‘Canelo’ arrived and we began to feed him. He didn’t leave. The students and, above all, the teachers adopted him. We all brought him food and kept him safe.”

The affection for ‘Canelo’ was so deep that, a few days ago, during the graduation ceremony of 250 students, the little dog was also recognized as part of the generation. “‘Canelo’ was included among the graduates, as they even put a cap and gown on him so that he would look elegant in the class photo,” Elguera commented.

This initiative not only seeks to honor ‘Canelo’, but also to promote responsible care of pets and raise awareness among students about respect for stray animals. “With this we are promoting responsible care of pets. Even if they are little animals, they must also be respected. We have many students from other communities and we care that they take care of pets and stray dogs,” the director emphasized.

The story of ‘Canelo’ is not only an example of human kindness towards animals in need, but also an example of how an educational community can come together to offer a home and love to a living being in need. In times where animal abandonment and stray dogs are a growing concern, this gesture of love and solidarity resonates as a message of hope and responsibility for everyone.
