Are you a pet owner? Traveling with them will be easier with the incorporation of Uber Pet in the Mexican market.
If you own a dog, cat or other domestic animal, you will be able to travel with them in this new way.
Esteban Illades, Communications Manager for Uber Mexico, said that this solution came about thanks to the request of clients and the driver partners themselves.
The mobility demand of pet owners has been covered by specific organizations and groups so far; however, the incursion of one of the most used platforms in the sector (with more than eight million users) is a solution that opens up options for users.
Mexico is the fifth market in which the company launches this solution in Latin America. Uber offers this service in Chile, Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia.
“It is a very successful product. We have realized that after the pandemic, the requests for Uber Pet trips have been very large; in Latin America we started in 2022 and from there we have been expanding it because there is a great need for this. We believe it will be a success.
We are working on it, we want to encourage more partners to accept these trips; we are seeing what we can do to give some kind of incentive and that more driver partners can participate in the project,” the director told MILENIO.
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) maintains that there are around 80 million pets in the country, living in about 25 million homes (70 percent of the total).
Of this number, 43.8 million are dogs; 16.2 million, cats and 20 million, other types of species.
Meanwhile, it is estimated that the pet industry is worth approximately 74 billion pesos in the country, which represents a good opportunity for different companies.
“Tutors have shown changes in habits; since the pandemic, this link has been renewed and strengthened. Emotional bonds are stronger and that has led to the trend of transferring welfare practices,” said Emmanuel Pedraza, director of the Human Animal Foundation.
How does Uber Pet work?
The company’s service is available for one passenger and one pet; if you travel with more than one pet, the platform recommends that you contact the driver partner to find out if you can take more animals.
In order to request a trip, you must choose the option from the reservation segment. To do this, you must schedule your trip and choose the day, time and request your transfer through “Uber Pet.”
“You can travel with or without a carrier; the driver partner already knows that he or she will receive a trip with a pet. We recommend bringing some type of blanket or cover to avoid leaving hair on the vehicle seats.”
You can reserve a trip from 90 days to 30 minutes in advance; partners can choose whether they want to travel with animals or not, and this is a tool that they can turn on and off whenever they want.
Where will Uber Pet be available?
The launch is already available for users in Mexico City. Beginning in August, coverage will extend to Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana. By the end of the year, Uber Pet will be available in 12 cities in the country.
In addition, the company announced an alliance with the Adopta Mx foundation, through which they will make a donation and use the company’s networks to publish animals available for adoption.
