In order to promote the tourist destinations that Sonora has and thus increase the demand of travelers who visit various municipalities, state authorities and tour operators are working on a program that consists of presenting destinations and packages to citizens of Arizona, with the intention that they consider this region in their vacation plans.
Although there are already certain groups that usually come at different times of the year, the goal is to have a constant arrival of Americans to the magical towns, beaches or any other point of the Sonoran geography so that the economic spillover for residents and service providers increases.
As part of the effort made by tour operators in coordination with the State Tourism Secretariat, they have visited this American entity and held meetings with representatives of organizations that are dedicated to tourism work to strengthen ties in this area and create a synergy that will lead them to win over both states.
The president of that agency, Julio César Rascón Torres, said that they are preparing for the demand that may occur in the following weeks or months and to provide quality service to Arizona travelers who choose to spend their vacation periods here.
“We are already working, the Ministry of Tourism promoted coming to Sonora. Next week they will present themselves before the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to put together packages and start from there to see how they work; we hope very well,” he said.
The intention is to create routes that take advantage of the new roads that have been created in the high mountains, to take tourists from Agua Prieta to Bavispe, go down to the Sonora River or connect with other towns, in vans with capacity for up to 18 passengers, in order to give them optimal service, he stressed.
Tourism jobs grow
On the other hand, based on figures provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Sonora grew by 27% in the number of contracts in the tourism sector during the first quarter of this year, making it the third entity at the national level with the best interannual record.
Both the hotel and restaurant sectors closed April with an increase in the hiring of personnel, in addition to an increase in income of more than 14%, which denotes prosperity for those who make up that sector, ranking 10th in the country in that section.
