While trying to resist the theft of their vehicle while they were ascending the Cumbres de Maltrata, on the 150D Orizaba-Puebla highway, a married couple was attacked with bullets by unknown, heavily armed individuals.
The injured couple was helped and rushed to the Regional Hospital of Río Blanco, where the man is fighting for his life, having suffered a bullet wound to the head.
Around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, Danglis Rigoberto Hernández and Flor Sbeady Domínguez Martínez were ascending the Cumbres de Maltrata aboard their white Toyota Hilux double-cab pickup truck when they were surprised by men carrying lasers and high-powered rifles for the exclusive use of the armed forces, who stopped them to apparently assault them and steal their vehicle.
The driver presumably tried to evade the assault, so they were brutally attacked with bullets. Because of this, they had to stop their march at kilometer 239 of the highway section La Estancia-La Plaza de Cobro 027 in Esperanza, Puebla.
Paramedics from Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) arrived promptly to the site, who assisted and urgently transferred the wounded to the Civil Hospital located at kilometer 2 of the highway junction, belonging to the Reforma neighborhood of the Rioblanca municipality, because the man had a gunshot wound to the head and the woman in one of her buttocks.
After the armed attack, officers from the State Police and the Ministerial Police arrived at said stretch of highway, in addition to the National Guard (GN) and personnel from the Regional Justice Prosecutor’s Office of the 15th District based in Orizaba. Forensic experts took note, carried out the relevant procedures, compiled an investigation file and finally asked the tow truck personnel to remove the vehicle, which was placed under guard as evidence of the armed attack and attempted murder.
It should be noted that although the police authorities activated a red code and implemented an operation to search for the location of the alleged hitmen, unfortunately the results were null.
