At the presidential morning conference this Friday, held in the Treasury Room of the National Palace, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) instructed Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) to report on the arrest of Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, which occurred yesterday in Texas, United States (US). He was arrested with Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.

In her report, the head of Federal Security of the AMLO Government confirmed that the capo, one of the most important leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, did leave the Hermosillo Airport, in the state of Sonora, on the morning of last Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 07:55 hours, local time, in a Cessna-type plane.
The route was to the Santa Teresa Airport, in the US, where he arrived at 10:19 hours. Regarding the question of whether it was a capture or delivery agreed by a third party, the official mentioned that this is still being investigated.
Rosa Icela Rodríguez added that the AMLO Government has all the information on the flight route and the pilot who transported Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada. Regarding the driver of the aircraft that transported the drug lord, he has the corresponding permit, but he would not be an element of the Navy (Semar) or the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena).
The official added that, after being arrested, the former companion of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán was taken to an intelligence center of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA, acronym in English), in El Paso, Texas, where he remains.
It was added that, at all times, the National Migration Institute (INM) was aware of the flight plan, but they did not know who was traveling, since the passenger used another name, and the document only reported one person traveling, in addition to the pilot, identified as Larry C. Parker.
The Government of Mexico did not collaborate in the capture of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel
Before President AMLO, the head of Federal Security pointed out that the Government of Mexico, headed by AMLO, did not collaborate in these events. And while they are awaiting progress in the US investigations, a separate inquiry will be conducted in Mexico to find out how the transfer and capture of two of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel occurred. He commented that both remain in the custody of US authorities.
