World Archery, the International Archery Federation, did not allow the Mexican men’s Delegation of the specialty to use the image of the Jaguar Warrior on their uniform. This is because the governing body considered that it could represent a commercial brand, so it asked them not to use it at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Mexican men’s Archery team, made up of Matías Grande, Bruno Martínez and Javier Rojas, practiced this Wednesday on the esplanade of Les Invalides. It was there that representatives of the organization told them about the situation with the image of the Jaguar Warrior.
The authorities asked them not to use the garments or at least to patch the image on the clothing. In fact, the latter could be seen later when the International Archery Federation uploaded a photo of Matías Grande, with the patched cap.
According to Grande himself to the media present in Paris, he considers that, in a certain way, the image of the Jaguar Warrior can incite hunting.
“There were several things that are prohibited in this sport. The use of camouflage and a really nice jaguar shirt that looked cool, but it was animal print and here in this sport it is prohibited. I think it is because of hunting so as not to incite it, but the truth is that I do not know exactly why the rule, but the rest of the shirts are allowed and are the ones we will compete in the next few days.”
WHY IS THE JAGUAR WARRIOR ON THE ARCHERY TEAM UNIFORM FOR PARIS 2024?
The president of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM), Marijose Alcalá, explained to ESPN that the head of the mission of the Mexican Delegation in Paris 2024, Bernardo de la Garza, will seek to clarify the situation. It is nothing more than a design by Charly, the company that manufactured the uniforms.
“The head of the mission has to go and explain that it is not a brand, that it is a design of Charly’s clothing. For that reason they asked him to cover up now, tomorrow other clothing will arrive,” he explained.
Likewise, the coach of the men’s team, Alejandro Vélez, assured the media that they want to carry the image, but if they don’t manage to do so there will be no problem, since they have at least eight more items of clothing.
“The International Olympic Committee authorized it, but the COM must send an email, between yes and no we can use them in the meantime, and it would be ugly to go out with the official shirt all pretty of a Jaguar Warrior all covered up that represents us.”
