The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) reported that 22 people from India and Vietnam were released, who were presumably deprived of their liberty inside a building in Coacalco.
The agency explained that the events occurred on Monday night when, according to a citizen complaint, they reported that screams were heard coming from inside a building, so federal, state and municipal police authorities were deployed on Manuel Morelos Avenue, in the Morelos neighborhood, First Section.
It indicated that with this information, the elements raided the home due to the imminent risk that people would be victims of some criminal act.
It highlighted that 22 foreign males were found in the home, all adults, 21 of them of Indian nationality and one Vietnamese.
The FGJEM stated that through a digital translation application, the victims reported that they were kidnapped at that site and that two people prevented them from leaving the place, who had presumably requested money via telephone from their relatives so as not to cause them harm and to set them free.
The FGJEM stated that a man and a woman were arrested at the site, who apparently held these 22 foreign people hostage, so they were presented before the Public Ministry Agent, who will determine their legal status.
The FGJEM pointed out that the consulates of both countries were notified to provide assistance to their compatriots, and the National Institute of Migration (INM) was also involved to verify their immigration status in the country.
The FGJEM stated that elements of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), the National Guard, the State of Mexico Security Secretariat (SSEM) and the Public Security and Municipal Transit Directorate of Coacalco participated in the operation.
