Mexico-Puebla Highway: Is it still closed TODAY, August 7, due to the Tlahuapan blockade?

The Mexico-Puebla highway at kilometer 74 remains closed this Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

According to information from Federal Highways and Bridges (CAPUFE), this blockade remains in both directions, by protesters who settled in the area, since the afternoon of August 6, 2024.

It is worth mentioning that the closure of the Mexico-Puebla highway has affected different drivers who travel from the state of Puebla to Mexico City and vice versa, so here we will give you some options for alternative routes.

When will the Mexico-Puebla highway open?

The ejidatarios of Santa Rita Tlahuapan, who maintain the blockade of the Mexico-Puebla highway in both directions, that they will continue with the closure until the authorities reach an agreement with them on compensation for the use of their lands to build the highway.

According to the protesters, so far, this type of action has been the only alternative for government authorities to take their requests into account. They also shared that a group of ejidatarios are also in Mexico City negotiating with the authorities for this payment.

However, if they do not reach an agreement, the blockade will continue until further notice, therefore, drivers who circulate on this road are recommended to take alternate routes to avoid getting stuck in the congestion of the area.

How to get to Mexico City?

If you are traveling to Mexico City (Mexico City), but you are affected by the blockade maintained by the inhabitants of Santa Rita Tlahuapan, we recommend that you take an alternate route and below we offer you an option:

Take the Puebla-Tlaxcala highway and follow the road until you join the Tlaxcala bypass and then take the Mexico 121 exit towards Chiautempan / Mexico 117 / Apizaco.

Continue towards the Tlaxcala-Santa Anita Huiloac / Mexico 117D / Mexico 121 junction and head towards the Apizaco-Calpulalpan / Calpulalpan-Apizaco / Mexico 136 junction.

Go until you reach Calpulalpan-Texcoco / Mexico-Veracruz highway / Mexico 136, take the second exit at the roundabout towards the Texcoco-Mexico federal highway / Av. Juárez Norte / Mexico 136.

Locate the PRI municipal committee in Texcoco and turn to access the ramp towards Ecatepec de Morelos-Texcoco / Texcoco dairy / Mexico 142, go one kilometer and take the Texcoco -Peñon highway / Mexico 136D until you reach Mexico City.

What do the authorities say about the blockade of the Mexico-Puebla highway?

So far, the authorities have not commented on the blockade of the Mexico-Puebla highway, however, both Federal Highways and Bridges (CAPUFE) and the National Guard Highway Division (GN) have confirmed that the closure of the road continues.

On social media, Federal Highways and Bridges (CAPUFE) wrote:

“Km 74. Traffic closure continues in both directions due to the presence of protesters. For more information on alternate routes please call 088, Take your precautions.”

While the National Guard wrote:

“Total closure of traffic continues in both directions due to the presence of residents near km 070+400 highway (1710) Mexico-Puebla. Pay attention to traffic signs.”

Arco Norte remains closed today, August 7, 2024
Through social media, it was also reported that the closure of the Arco Norte continues in the following sections:

“The blockade by protesters continues, at km 182 Caseta Calpulalpan, in both directions.”
These sections are open:

Calpulalpan to Texmelucan area, open.
Sahagún to Atlacomulco area, open.
