The governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, proposed that the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) house one of the stations of the Mexico-Querétaro passenger train, which is one of the projects that the president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, plans to carry out.

The state governor commented that among the proposals he presented to the Morena member, with whom he met last Wednesday in Mexico City, he included the possibility of installing two train stations in Querétaro: one at the airport and another in San Juan del Río, with the intention of turning the entity into an alternative for those arriving in the capital of the country.

Kuri González considered that a railway station at the AIQ could serve to generate a new transportation system in the center of the country, which would lighten the air flow in Mexico City. She also said that this location would avoid conflicts in other areas, such as Calesa, whose residents opposed the construction of a train station that was planned during Enrique Peña Nieto’s six-year term.

“What I was telling her (Claudia Sheinbaum) is that I recommended that the station be at the airport, so that an alternate airport to Mexico City is made and we can also put in place a transportation system from the airport to the downtown area and avoid having social problems,” she said.

Although the possibility of using the Old Train Station for the project was initially considered, the governor ruled out the option, considering that the location does not have enough parking space and could generate congestion in the area.

With respect to the rest of the proposals, he indicated that he presented a total of 17 infrastructure projects to Dr. Sheinbaum, four of them priority, including the “Batán, Agua Para Todos” system and the construction of an electric transmission network.

Although the president-elect promised to provide support for at least one of the projects in each state, the governor was confident that the talks with his cabinet will prosper in order to obtain federal resources for all the proposals, including for the maintenance of the 11 federal highways.

“The truth is that I saw her very receptive, the same with the train, a great support for the train, and I hope that they can continue to support us. I told her that the eleven federal highways, well, we have not received federal support for the maintenance issue for a while, that we have not received extraordinary support other than what the law on federal support requires and that leaves us in this situation of helplessness,” he concluded.
