Four international organists and seven international women will perform at the Guanajuato International Organ Festival (FIOG), from August 20 to 30; this festival, which is completely free, is one of the most important sacred music festivals in the center of the country and rescues the cultural and historical wealth of the pipe organs in the capital

The Directorate of Culture and Education of Guanajuato announced that the inaugural concert will be on Tuesday, August 20 at 8 pm in the Collegiate Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato, and will be presented by the Spanish organist Josep Solé Coll, who is the organist of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City.

Pipe organs are an example of the solemnity with which they lived
At the presentation of the FIOG, the chronicler of the capital, Eduardo Vidaurri Aréchiga, was present, and he pointed out that the FIOG is the opportunity to learn about the pipe organs and harmoniums that Guanajuato has.

“All this is a sign of the solemnity with which the liturgy was lived in other times, and today we are given the opportunity to listen to these instruments by the masters who come to play at this festival.”

The pipe organs and harmoniums, which total six in the capital, are of baroque and French styles. This is the 17th edition of the FIOG dedicated to Guillermo Pinto Reyes, a composer and musician who lived in Guanajuato.

The recitals will be at the Oratorio San Felipe Neri, the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and at the House of Culture. The closing concert will be held at the Collegiate Basilica, with Félix Benjamín Torres Romero on the organ, and the trumpeters Luis Flores Villagómez and Rodrigo Mora Sanabria. Other musicians who will perform will be Maurizio Mancino from Italy, Nika Jonicenoka from Latvia.
