The State Attorney General’s Office announced that it has opened an investigation file for the case of two tourists who earlier this week reported having been drugged at a hotel in Isla Mujeres.
According to the official statement, this corporation reported that the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Dealing Crimes began the investigation, even though the tourists did not file an official complaint.
In addition, it specified that the hotel where the events would have occurred is located in Costa Mujeres, and not in Cancun, as the tourists had claimed.
This case was reported by these tourists, named Kaylie Pitzer and Zara Don Hull, who accused, earlier this week, in American media, that they were drugged during their vacation.
The young women stated that doctors presume that they were intoxicated with fentanyl. This apparently occurred when they were at the pool bar and had a drink, according to their testimony.
Both women are in their early 20s and are university students from Oklahoma. They said that they made the trip with their boyfriends and another couple last month.
The day after arriving at the hotel, the tourists went to the pool bar, had some drinks and suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness at the bar.
As a result of this, one of the tourists, named Zara, was hospitalized and transferred to her country, after the United States embassy recommended that the family do so in order to receive better care.
Finally, Zara had to be sent on a medical plane to a hospital in Dallas. The other young woman recovered days later.
In various media outlets in the United States, the families of the young women accused that they do not have a toxicology report from the Mexican authorities, despite the fact that they supposedly had one.
