Mexico has 500 federal legislators for the Chamber of Deputies, the bilateral body that makes up the Legislative Branch. They are responsible for constitutionally representing the people to make decisions to legislate.

How is the Chamber of Deputies made up?
The Federal Chamber of Deputies is made up of 500 deputies. 300 of them were elected by the principle of relative majority in an equal number of single-member districts; and 200 elected by the principle of proportional representation, through the System of Regional Lists, voted on in the plurinominals. For each deputy or owner, a substitute is elected.
In Mexico, it is renewed every three years with the different candidates of political parties. In July 2024, those leading the integration of the Chamber are Morena (40%), followed by the PAN (22.4%) and PRI (13.6%).
What does a federal deputy do?
The main functions of the representatives of the Chamber of Deputies are:
create, propose and approve laws;
review, modify and approve the government budget;
are a counterweight to the Executive power;
monitor the implementation of public policies;
appoint some officials such as the president of Human Rights, Magistrates, head of the Attorney General’s Office, among others;
declare whether or not to proceed criminally against public servants who committed crimes.

How much does a federal deputy earn?
According to the Salary Table of the Chamber of Deputies, this is what they receive:
Net monthly salary of 75,609 pesos with 27 cents. This monthly net diet, effective from February 1, 2024.
A bonus equivalent to 40 days of the gross diet, proportional to the days they were in office.
Funeral expenses of up to one month of the net diet due to the death of their beneficiaries.
