The Reynosa-Pharr international bridge expansion project took a next step with the start of the expansion of the infrastructure that links Tamaulipas with Texas, which will double the transit of cargo trucks over the Rio Bravo to 10,000 daily, an event attended by authorities from both countries.
With the presence of Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernández and Reynosa Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz, it was explained that the bridge will be parallel to the other structure, with the goal of increasing the flow of goods leaving Mexico for the United States and vice versa, after its construction has been approved by both authorities.
Luis Bazan, director of the International Bridge, highlighted that it is a twin bridge, or second bridge, which will be built parallel to the existing one, in addition to modules for the inspection of perishable goods and refrigerated goods.
“The expansion of the lanes could be completed by the end of 2025. On the other hand, on the Mexican side, the work is almost finished with 95 percent progress in the expansion,” he said.
This bridge represents one of the most important crossings for trade between Mexico and the United States, and so far this year it has registered imports for 13.22 billion dollars, and exports of 6.56 billion dollars.
“This type of investment is essential for the development of the region, of Reynosa, of Pharr and of the entire Valley of Texas; what we mayors on both sides of the border are looking for is for people to be able to live better, to be able to improve their income, for there to be social mobility,” said Reynosa Mayor Peña Ortiz.
US Senators and Congressmen, as well as representatives of Customs, federal and state government officials, as well as businessmen, gave an account of the event as well as the laying of the first stone.
