The municipal president of El Marqués, Claudia Martínez Guevara, led the tour to supervise the sanitation of the Querétaro River and verify the discharges from the treatment plant located in Socavón and the sanitary drains.
It should be noted that El Marqués, in coordination with the Querétaro State Water Commission (CEA) and the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ), began to carry out the sanitation of the Querétaro River since the end of 2023, in order to reduce the contamination and pathogens found in the water.
In this sense, Martínez Guevara highlighted the actions they carried out during said tour. Likewise, she emphasized that the intention of carrying out the sanitation work is to be able to use the water again without it representing a public health problem.
“We have been working for several months together with the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) on a sanitation project for the Querétaro River. We have been looking at several actions that they were going to carry out over the course of these months, which includes some dams. We are working in stages and now we are starting with the next one and we were visualizing the scope, the conditions it was in and how much we can achieve. The intention is to have it (the water) in the near future with a basic, important and healthy quality for the human touch.”
The current administration seeks to continue with the sanitation outside the drainage network in some critical points to implement corrective actions and promote systems that help the treatment of wastewater that is carried out in the municipality’s treatment plants.
Before finishing, the mayor highlighted that they are currently working on the second stage of said treatment plant to improve the capacity of sanitized water. She also pointed out that by the end of 2024 it is expected that it will be operating at 100%.
