A serious incident has affected the community of Frías, in the municipality of Manuel Doblado, due to the breaking of the edge of the local dam, this, due to the excess of water accumulated by the recent rains, which caused the fracture in the edge of the infrastructure, generating an emergency situation in the area.
The breaking of the edge, which occurred during the early hours of this Saturday, caused the uncontrolled release of large volumes of water, which has led to flooding of up to a meter and a half, mainly affecting an area of 30 hectares of crop fields and a section of the road adjacent to the dam.
Alert to neighboring rural communities
As a result, the road that connects Frías with Purísima del Rincón has been closed to guarantee the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
Following the first reports, local authorities, along with emergency teams and Civil Protection personnel, arrived at the site, and from the first minute they have worked intensively to mitigate the effects of the overflow and avoid collateral damage due to this reason.
So far, a security perimeter has been established around the affected area, and measures have been implemented to control the flow of water and prevent further damage.
After the first emergency works, it is known that only six families were evacuated from surrounding areas and only material losses and the death of some livestock.
Based on this, the municipal government has requested the cooperation of the citizens to prevent circulation in the affected areas and has guaranteed that efforts are being made to restore normality as soon as possible.
In addition, a thorough evaluation of the state of the dam has been initiated to determine the causes of the break and prevent future incidents.
