Los Cabos receives recognition for its attention to foreigners

The Minister Counselor of Consular Affairs at the Embassy of the United States in Mexico, Amber Baskette, presented a recognition to the Government of Los Cabos for the work developed and the support it provides to the American citizens who reside in the municipality.

The recognition was received by the Municipal Coordination of Attention to Foreign Residents, headed by Nohemí Romero Guzmán.

The document was delivered by the consular agent of the United States in Los Cabos, Maribel Silva Martínez, who is also a member of the Committee of Foreign Residents.

In addition to the Municipal Coordination, Jorge Ramírez Vélez, representative of the Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), and Lilzi Orcí Fregoso, executive president of the Association of Hotels of Los Cabos, also received recognition.

The Municipal Coordination for Attention to Foreign Residents provides support in procedures with the municipal, state and federal governments, such as driver’s license procedures, construction permits, name changes for Oomsapas receipts or requests for the National Institute for Older Adults (INAPAM) credential.

Even for permanent residence, as well as support to follow up on complaints about the electric power service, complaints filed at the Tourist Assistance Center (CATAC) and the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).

In addition, advice and support is offered in situations of evictions or problems with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, all free of charge. Part of this work is implemented thanks to the communication channel that was created for people who do not speak Spanish, such as the chat “Whatsappeando Por Tu Seguridad”.

Commanders from the General Directorate of Public Security, Preventive Police and Municipal Traffic, as well as rescue and emergency corps, can be found in this chat.

Finally, Nohemí Romero Guzmán reported that, according to information from the National Migration Institute (INM), as of January 30, 2024, a total of 14,933 foreign people live in the municipality of Los Cabos, both temporary and permanent, with those of American origin having the largest population with an approximate number of 10,050 registered people.
