Andrés Martínez Reynoso, director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), said that the hotel offer in Quintana Roo is 20 thousand rooms away from reaching the Las Vegas level. He also referred to the change that the transfer of tourists through the different destinations of the State will have, once the Mayan Train is finished.
“The challenges continue to be many, we have more than 130 thousand rooms, we are 20 thousand rooms away from having those of Las Vegas, continuing to grow, there are more hotels opening, now with a new airport and the Mayan Train that will connect three international airports, this is a completely different change,” Martínez told Caribe Empresarial.
He also referred to the fact that the Mayan Train will change the dynamics of transfer between the destinations of Quintana Roo. “Once it is open at the end of the year, the connection of the two airports Cancun-Tulum, there we will have a different mechanism and the other part would be Tulum-Chetumal passing through Bacalar, it is assumed that you would be landing in Tulum and you would be an hour from Bacalar, it already changes a lot the scheme of how we move to places, the example is tourism in Europe that is very much with the train.
As reported by REPORTUR.mx, Martinez Reynoso also surprised by revealing that the opening of the Tulum airport has promoted circuits, with tourists entering through the Tulum airport and leaving through the Cancun airport or vice versa, which allows them to get closer to destinations in the South such as Mahahual, Chetumal and Bacalar. (CPTQ surprises: there are tourists who enter through the Tulum airport and leave through the Cancun airport).
“We have new products, the Tulum International Airport has been a huge success, it completely changes the geography of how we saw the State from within because now we are starting to see circuits that we didn’t have, that is, they enter through an airport, through Cancun and return through Tulum, and that allows them to get to know more destinations, which is what the Tulum airport has created, and it has brought the southern destinations of Mahahual, Chetumal, and Bacalar closer to tourists who normally vacationed in the north,” Martínez Reynoso commented to the same media outlet.
