The former collaborator of Genaro García Luna and head of the Campeche prisons, Javier Herrera Valles, brought from Mexico City by Layda Sansores Sanromán, was slow to ask for support.
There is a growing version that one of the injured lost his life during the pitched battle that took place in the prison.
Relatives of the injured inmates told reporters covering the violent events that took place this afternoon in the Campeche prison that the prison manager and security expert, hired by Governor Layda Sansores Sanromán, Javier Herrera Valles, tried to hide it.
Herrera Valles, who was Regional Undersecretary of the Federal Police, when the head of the defunct institution was Genaro García Luna – today imprisoned for drug trafficking in the United States – tried to prevent the situation from becoming known and even delayed asking for support.
Regarding the latter, it is worth mentioning that although the disturbances began shortly after 5:00 p.m., it took an hour for reinforcements to arrive at the prison.
It is now known that when the riot began, there were still some relatives of prisoners – visitors – inside the prison, who had to be abruptly evacuated.
However, those responsible for the custody proved to be incompetent and the fight turned into a pitched battle, in which homemade firearms were brought out.
The preliminary balance so far is six injured, but the version that a person deprived of his liberty (PPL) lost his life is increasing.
As usually happens in this type of situation, the authorities keep the relatives in total uncertainty, by not informing promptly about what happened, as well as the exact number of injured and if there was any injured.
