Jazmín Félix and Flor mentioned in an interview that they have been dedicated to street music for more than 4 years.
In the streets of San Cristóbal de las Casas, a group of women dedicate themselves to street music to make a living and bring food to their families. Jazmín Félix and Flor, members of the group “La Flor de Jazmín,” have been singing and playing the guitar for more than five years in restaurants, cafes, and streets of the city. Despite the lack of employment, these artists find in music a dignified way to support their families.
“We have been working for 5 years, making a living by playing in the streets and restaurants,” said Jazmín Félix.
The group “La Flor de Jazmín” performs all kinds of melodies, including serenades, and has gained the sympathy and financial support of the public. “Fortunately, people have liked our music, and thanks to them, we have been able to move forward,” they expressed.
“We have been working for 5 years with our voices and guitars, making a living by playing in the streets and restaurants,” commented Jazmín Félix, originally from Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Although she has to cover transportation costs to get to San Cristóbal, she believes it is worth continuing to spread traditional Mexican music. Her partner, Flor, is from San Cristóbal, and together they manage to collect what is necessary to bring food to their homes.
The artists call on the residents and visitors of San Cristóbal to continue supporting them, as their music is not only a means of subsistence but also a way to preserve the rich musical tradition of the region.
