With the arrival of the “Costa Firenze” from Carnival Panorama last Wednesday, the scheduled cruise calendar for August concluded, bringing the total from January to date to 272,740 passengers, 91,849 crew members, and 69 ships, as reported by Jesús Rigel Sánchez Garzón.
The Director of Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries in Mazatlán added that the economic impact is estimated to exceed 300 million pesos to date, with the most benefited sectors being souvenir shops, restaurants located in the Historic Center, and tourism service providers related to tours and transportation.
“Today (Wednesday) we received the last cruise of the August schedule, adding to the 69 cruises that have arrived during the year. In August, we received 4 ships with more than 18,000 passengers and over 5,000 crew members. I would also like to mention that the Directorate of Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries will continue to attend to visitors from this tourism segment within ASIPONA Mazatlán, receiving all arriving ships,” commented Sánchez Garzón.
The head of the Directorate of Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries anticipated that according to the schedule of the National Port System Administration Mazatlán (ASIPONA), this year is expected to close with the arrival of 140 tourist ships, a figure that could be affected by weather conditions or maintenance issues with the cruises.
Finally, he noted that the staff of the Tourism Coordination will continue to provide support at the tourist information module located inside the Mazatlán Cruise Terminal, assisting passengers with tourist maps and information about points of interest and activities that can be done in the port.
