Located at kilometer 96+873 on the Escárcega-Chetumal highway, next to the entrance to the Calakmul archaeological zone, Gasolinera Bienestar is managed by the Unión de Servicios Conhuas cooperative, formed in August 2023 with the support of SEMARNAT and ASEA.
The new gas station in the region, under the PEMEX brand, has three supply tanks with capacities of 80,000 liters for regular gasoline, 60,000 liters for premium gasoline, and 80,000 liters for diesel. Its public sale prices aim to be competitive for the region, offering fuel at a lower price than the competition, as long as the profit margin allows.
Among its services, Gasolinera Bienestar, which will operate 24 hours a day, has a supply store offering products from artisans of the Conhuas ejido, as well as a wide variety of products made by communities in Protected Natural Areas (ANP) and sustainable use of natural resources, which have collective seals from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP).
It is worth noting that the workforce of the new Gasolinera Bienestar, defined in a cooperative assembly, includes young men and women in managerial positions who are under 30 years old, thus promoting trust and the assignment of significant responsibilities to the new generations.
The station’s workers obtained their labor competency certification, granted by the National Council for Standardization and Certification of Labor Competencies (Conocer), after taking the course “Safe Fuel Supply at a Service Station,” where they learned about risk and waste management, fuel supply, as well as customer service, and deepened their knowledge of environmental and safety obligations.
On January 26, the inauguration event of the service station was held before the Conhuas community, attended by the President of Mexico, Lic. Andrés Manuel López Obrador; the head of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources, María Luisa Albores; and the executive director of ASEA, Ángel Carrizales.
Gasolinera Bienestar, the first in the region and the second in the country to operate under the cooperative model, promotes collective organization and self-management of the communities. More importantly, it represents a tool in the pursuit of energy sovereignty: it is the people, the sovereign, who will manage one of the fuel distribution points of Petróleos Mexicanos, and the resources obtained from it will be invested in continuous improvements for the Conhuas community and its inhabitants, as well as the care of Gran Calakmul, the second-largest tropical rainforest reserve in the Americas, after the Amazon in Brazil.
