A man was shot and killed on the night of Thursday, September 3rd, outside an establishment in the heart of Mazatlán’s iconic tourist district, the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone), highlighting a surge in local violence across the coastal port city.
The armed attack took place around 9:00 p.m. on De Las Garzas Street, situated between Gaviotas Avenue and Laguna Street. According to local reports, neighborhood residents and bystanders alerted emergency services after hearing multiple firearm detonations echoing near the entrance of a local venue.
Paramedics from the Bomberos Veteranos Mazatlán (Mazatlán Veteran Firefighters) responded rapidly to the scene to provide emergency medical treatment to the victim. However, upon arrival, medical responders confirmed that the man had already succumbed to his injuries and possessed no vital signs.
Officers from the Municipal Police and personnel from the Mexican Army arrived shortly after to secure the perimeter and establish a crime scene cordon. Investigative agents and forensics teams from the State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) subsequently conducted initial field procedures, collecting evidence and launching a formal investigation into the homicide.
Authorities have not yet released or confirmed the identity of the victim, nor have any suspects been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
The tragic incident adds to a troubling escalation of violent events recorded in the port city. During the current month alone, local authorities and media outlets have documented at least 12 fatalities resulting from violent crimes across various neighborhoods in Mazatlán, raising ongoing public safety concerns among residents and business owners in key commercial and tourist sectors.
