The Guerrero government notified Mario Figueroa Mundo, mayor of the municipality of Taxco de Alarcón, in the northern part of Guerrero, that he would assume the security of that town, with the support of the Mexican Army and the National Guard from this day on.
In a press release issued this afternoon, the Coordination Board for the Construction of Peace, notified the mayor “about the decree published by the Executive of the State of Guerrero, through which control in matters of security is assumed by the Government of Guerrero.”
This was agreed during a work meeting in which “the Undersecretary of Political and Social Development, of the General Secretariat of Government, Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros, and the Secretary of Public Security of the state, Josué Barrón Sevilla, delivered this notification to the mayor of Taxco, Mario Figueroa Mundo.”
Rodríguez Cisneros said that “a coordinated command has been established with the participation of the State Public Security Secretariat, the National Defense Secretariat and the National Guard, with the objective of guaranteeing the integrity of the population in Taxco.”
These actions derive from the events that occurred in the silver city in recent days “where elements of the municipal police were detained, who are under investigation for their possible participation in criminal acts,” recalled the state official.
