Tragedy on Highway 57: Two Pilgrim Cyclists from Querétaro Killed

It was reported that a vehicle struck a caravan of pilgrim cyclists heading to Cerro Grande, resulting in two fatalities.

A tragic accident occurred this morning on Highway 57, at the border area between Querétaro and Guanajuato, where a caravan of cyclists was hit, leaving two people dead.

The incident took place on Sunday morning at kilometer 39 of Federal Highway 57, near the municipality of San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, according to local media.

It was reported that a vehicle, whose characteristics are unknown, ran over a group of cyclists traveling on a pilgrimage from the Santa María Magdalena neighborhood in Querétaro to Cerro Grande in the municipality of Victoria, Guanajuato.

Municipal police officers from San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, arrived at the scene and confirmed that two people lost their lives in this tragic accident.

The area was secured and cordoned off by agents of the National Guard Highway Division, awaiting experts from the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Finally, the bodies were removed and taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) in San Miguel de Allende.

Unofficially, it was said that the driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal accident has already been detained by the authorities.
