The parade began in front of the Santa Ana church, moving along Constitución street to Independencia street, and ending at the Teatro del Calvario for the long-awaited inauguration of the Velaria. The crowd marched through the streets, enjoying the music and performances that accompanied the parade.

Among the participants in the parade were artistic groups from various schools, music bands, baton dancers, choirs and horsemen who accompanied the emblematic figure of the actor representing Pancho Villa. This varied contingent demonstrated the cultural richness of Durango and its commitment to keeping traditions alive.

The highlight of the night was the performance of the group “Los Sembradores de la Sierra”, who made the attendees sing and dance with a repertoire full of energy.

The new Velaria of the Teatro del Calvario is inaugurated in Durango
The main point of the day was the inauguration of the new Velaria of the Teatro del Calvario, which was named in honor of the teacher Lilia Santaella, an emblematic figure of Mexican music and founder of the Mexican Music School in Durango. This space has been renovated to become an iconic place for family gatherings and cultural promotion, an effort highlighted by the state authorities.

During the event, it was recalled how the callejoneadas were born in Durango, an event where local talents flourished, such as the northern group “Los Sembradores de la Sierra”.

Lauro Arce thanked the state authorities for their commitment to rescue this cultural venue and create a modern and functional space that, on this occasion, managed to bring together nearly two thousand people. This new velaria, with an investment of 17 million pesos, offers protection to the spectators by covering both the stage and the stands, an improvement that will allow outdoor events to be held without interruptions due to weather conditions.

The choice of the name of the new Velaria of the Teatro del Calvario is not a coincidence. Lilia Santaella is a prominent figure in the cultural scene of Durango, known for her tireless work in promoting Mexican music. By naming this space in her honor, tribute is paid to her legacy and the connection between the community and the culture is strengthened.

The velaria, in addition to being a symbol of this tribute, significantly improves the infrastructure of the theater, allowing attendees to enjoy the events without worrying about inclement weather.
