Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda and the Mayor of Laredo, Víctor Treviño, agreed to jointly promote the consolidation of the Nuevo León – Texas Train, the first cross-border railroad between Mexico and the United States.
“Just as we have already done with authorities from other important cities in Texas, today Laredo joins this project that strengthens the connectivity between Nuevo León and Texas and will continue to consolidate our Colombia – Laredo Customs Office as the most competitive on the Mexico – United States border,” said the Governor.
García Sepúlveda is on a work tour in the north of the State to consolidate transnational projects.
In Colombia, he held a meeting on Saturday with the Mayor of Laredo, Texas, and later attended a dinner accompanied by his wife, Mariana Rodríguez Cantú.
“The promotion of this Nuevo León, Texas Cross-Border Train is from today one of the priority issues of the City of Laredo, to continue consolidating our strategic alliance with Nuevo León and Mexico,” said Mayor Víctor Treviño.
The agreement between both officials took place at the headquarters of Codefront, the entity that administers the Colombia-Laredo Border Port on behalf of the Government of Nuevo Leon.
Here, Samuel Garcia also highlighted that Nuevo Leon will complete in a timely manner the procedures to obtain this year the presidential permit from the United States, for the expansion of the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge, from 8 to 16 lanes.
The governor explained that work has been done with maximum speed to comply with the schedule requested by the North American authority to start the expansion of the international crossing.
He stressed that throughout this process, the Nuevo Leon administration has had the support and technical advice of the Government of Mexico, the City of Laredo and the Government of Texas.
At the meeting, the Governor analyzed the progress of the project with all those involved.
Together with the Governor, the work meeting was headed by Marco Gonzalez, Secretary of Regional and Agricultural Development.
Participating were Victor Treviño, Mayor of Laredo; Juan Carlos Mendoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo; and Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary of Investment of Nuevo Leon.
Also present were Lieutenant Colonel Eric Salinas, Administrator of Colombian Customs; Kent Richards, Director of International Bridges of Laredo; Melissa Montemayor, Baltazar Ávila and Blasita Lopez, Consultants of the company LJA; Eduardo Villarreal Delgado, President of the
Colombian Customs Agents Association; and Alfonso de los Ríos, CEO of NOWPORTS; among others.
