The Director General of Promotion and International Affairs, Emmanuel Rey, representing the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Secretary of Tourism of Michoacán, Roberto Monroy García, announced various actions that this state has prepared to promote and spread the image of this important destination that will be at Punto México from October 4 to 31.

Emmanuel Rey said that Michoacán is a place full of traditions and highlighted the events that will take place in the coming months: the sighting of the Monarch Butterfly in its different sanctuaries; the Day of the Dead; and the Pan-American Race.
The Secretary of Tourism of Michoacán, Roberto Monroy García, mentioned that Michoacán is ready for the last months of the year where traditions, culture, nature and sports adrenaline will come together to make you live a unique experience.
The official of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) said that Michoacán is a place full of traditions; music; crafts made of copper, clay and wood; and mentioned that its wealth should be known and admired by tourists from all over the world, for the good of tourism in the state and the country, which is why its authorities are promoting some of its main attractions, which are already recognized nationally and internationally such as: the Day of the Dead; the Monarch Butterfly sighting season, and the Pan-American Race.

“Michoacán also offers places like lakes, beaches and volcanoes; and a delicious gastronomy, a culinary art that served as a paradigm for traditional Mexican cuisine to receive in 2010 from UNESCO, the designation as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, being the first in the world to be awarded this title,” he said.

He stressed that the Day of the Dead is a tradition that originates in our Mesoamerican cultures and merges with Catholic customs, becoming a celebration full of color, joy and mysticism. It should be noted that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), declared the Day of the Dead festivity as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.

He pointed out that this celebration so representative of Mexican culture, has become a reference for travelers from all over the world who want to live this magnificent experience, which, in recent years, has had greater diffusion.

He commented that the sighting of the Monarch Butterfly in the sanctuaries, which is also Intangible Heritage of Humanity, is another great spectacle in which every year, from November to March, millions of butterflies migrate from Canada and the United States to spend the winter in Mexico, specifically on the borders of the states of Michoacán and the State of Mexico.

In this reserve, of just over 56 thousand hectares, tourists, in addition to witnessing the sighting of butterflies, will be able to visit the sanctuaries: El Rosario, Sierra Chincua and Senguio, as well as visit the Magical Towns of Tlalpujahua de Rayón and Angangueo.

He also reported that the Pan-American race returns to Michoacán in its 37th edition, on October 14 and 15, it will travel through ten municipalities of the state, this is a sporting event that will take place from October 11 to 17, it will start in the city of Oaxaca and will conclude in the capital of San Luis Potosí.

“I would like to end by reminding them that if tourism does well, we all do well. Because tourism will always be part of the solution, never the problem, and as the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, has mentioned, in this way the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation is fulfilled,” he concluded.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of Michoacán, Roberto Monroy García, mentioned that Michoacán is ready for the last months of the year where traditions, culture, nature and sports adrenaline will come together to provide a unique experience for tourists and visitors who come to “the soul of Mexico.”

He pointed out that from October 20 to November 3, on the occasion of the Week of the Dead in Michoacán, there will be more than 400 activities that generate experiences for tourists and visitors, such as the cempasúchil flower fields in Copándaro, the traditional altars of the dead in Cuanajo, the altar making workshop in Pátzcuaro, among others.

He added that the projection for the long weekend from November 1 to 3 is the attendance of 507,746 visitors, with an economic spillover of 557.5 million pesos.

Likewise, he pointed out that for the November 2024-March 2025 season of the Monarch Butterfly that will arrive at the sanctuaries of Michoacán, there is a projection of 640.5 million pesos in economic spillover, and 514,732 attendees; This is 2.31% in economic impact and 2.24% in tourists and visitors higher than the same season in 2023.

Roberto Monroy said that for the 37th edition of the Carrera Panamericana, which returns to Michoacán on October 14 and 15, the presence of more than 700 motorists is expected to travel through 10 municipalities: Morelia, Charo, Copándaro, Queréndaro, Ciudad Hidalgo, Indaparapeo, Tzitzio, Álvaro Obregón, Cuitzeo del Porvenir and Zinapécuaro, with the participation of 70 teams of 12 nationalities.

He highlighted that Michoacán will once again be at Punto México to showcase the wealth of tourism, crafts, culture and gastronomy that exists in the state, as well as tourist packages that will be offered throughout October, where the destination will be promoted to invite national and international tourists to discover why “we are the Soul of Mexico.”

During the press conference, Carlos Ávila Pedraza, Undersecretary of Promotion of Michoacán, Zayin Villavicencio, General Coordinator of Social Communication of Michoacán, Carlos Cordero, Director of the Carrera Panamericana, among other special guests, participated.
