Mexico to have world’s largest superchip plant; will manufacture semiconductors for Nvidia

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer and known as the largest assembler of Apple’s iPhone, announced the construction in Mexico of the largest chip manufacturing plant in the world for the company Nvidia, executives of the Taiwanese company reported.

GB200 superchips are a key component of the next-generation computing platform, senior executives of the Taiwanese company said on Tuesday, October 8, quoted by the Reuters news agency.

Yong Liu, president of Foxconn, revealed that the plant will be built in Guadalajara and that it will have a “very large” production capacity.

What is the relationship between Foxconn and Nvidia?

Foxconn is rapidly expanding its manufacturing of Artificial Intelligence servers. OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT in 2022 triggered a huge ‘spending spree’ among the largest cloud service providers… and Foxconn was no stranger to that movement.

Unused home generators are being given away for next to nothing.
The Taiwanese company assembles Nvidia’s prized graphics processors into ready-to-use modules that AI data center operators can buy in bulk, helping its stock value rack up a nearly 90 percent surge so far in 2024.

Nvidia’s multi-million-dollar NVL72 system, made up of dozens of next-generation Blackwell chips arranged to work as a single unit, was one of the highlights of Foxconn’s event on Tuesday.

What ‘superchips’ will Foxconn make in Mexico?

Foxconn (also identified as Hon Hai) is known worldwide for making Nvidia’s GB200 chips, which will presumably begin shipping in late 2024 and are part of the Blackwell family, the next generation of AI processors.

“The demand (for the Blackwell platform) is terribly huge,” added Ting, who was accompanied on stage by Deepu Talla, Nvidia’s vice president for AI and robotics.

Foxconn already knows what it means to ‘bet’ on Mexico, since in recent years it has invested more than 500 million dollars in our country, specifically in Chihuahua.

Foxconn was founded in 1974 to offer contract electronics manufacturing services and since 2018 it has positioned itself as the largest company of its kind in the world, with operations in China, India, Japan, Vietnam, Mexico, the United States, among other countries.
