PRI and MC legislators will request funds for road repairs.
The roads in Campeche are considered by the Mexican Alliance of Operators and Transporters to be the worst in Mexico due to their current conditions. Therefore, federal deputies from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and Citizen Movement (MC) have assured that they will urge the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) to allocate extraordinary resources to the state office so they can maintain the roads. This year, 2024, no funds were allocated for this purpose, as everything was directed to the Tren Maya project.
PRI deputy Emilio Lara Calderón stated that he is already documenting the conditions of the roads in the northern part of the state, including the municipalities of Hopelchén, where he is from, as well as Calkiní, Dzitbalché, Hecelchakán, Tenabo, and their surroundings. He also mentioned that he is preparing a project for the recovery of state roads.
He noted that, for the moment, they do not foresee new roads. Instead, “we must ensure that what we have is in good condition. We cannot offer magical towns or tourist attractions if we cannot send tourists to these places in good condition due to the roads. They are damaged, some are impassable for various reasons, some due to the passage of heavy trucks from the Tren Maya,” he explained.
Similarly, but from the Citizen Movement side, Francisco Farías Bailón has been asking on his social media for people to send photos or locations of their roads, as he is also preparing an information package for the SICT to urgently address the situation of federal communication arteries.
In this regard, he also mentioned that he has already compiled an initial information package that was recently submitted. In consensus with other federal deputies, they will request a meeting with the head of the SICT to seek immediate support.
