Authorities have revealed the possible inauguration date of the Light Rail and highlighted that it will connect the Tren Maya with Campeche Airport without restrictions.
If you plan to visit Campeche soon, we have good news for you. A new mobility project will soon be inaugurated. It is the Light Rail, which will connect the Tren Maya stations with Campeche International Airport without restrictions.
It is important to note that, like the Tren Maya, the Light Rail is managed by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), specifically the Olmeca – Maya – Mexica Airport, Railway, Auxiliary Services, and Related Group.
This transportation system will have a total of 14 stations, distributed along 15 kilometers from the Historic Center of San Francisco de Campeche, passing through the Tren Maya, to Campeche Airport.
It was also announced that it will have five trains, with a capacity for 1,200 passengers, transporting them from the boardwalk and through the most important points of the city.
When will the Light Rail in Campeche be inaugurated?
Sedena informed that the inauguration of the Light Rail in Campeche, one of the most advanced electromagnetic transport systems in Mexico, will be in April 2025, when it will officially begin operations.
It should be noted that the Light Rail has been designed to offer a smooth connection between the airport and the city, without restrictions on operating hours, allowing it to coincide with the arrivals and departures of national and international flights.
The administrator of Campeche Airport, Alejandro Salomé Iturria Luna, assured that so far, the construction work has not significantly affected the flow of passengers.
The Light Rail will not only benefit airport passengers but also those who wish to explore the city quickly and comfortably, from its departure in the Historic Center to the arrival at the Tren Maya terminal.
Access to this train will be available to both national and foreign tourists, who will be able to enjoy a journey through the most important sites of the city, including arrivals at 2:30 PM and 10:00 PM from Monday to Friday.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Mexicana de Aviación will operate flights in coordination with this system, with arrivals at 8:00 AM.
