Clay Fair in San Cristobal

Artisan women from Amatenango del Valle, accompanied by Fernando Zepeda Trujillo, president of the Chiapas Brand Regulatory Council; chef Martha Zepeda and representatives of the Casa de las Artesanías Institute, invited people to the Second Clay Fair from November 1 to 3.
In a press conference held in San Cristóbal de Las Casas on Tuesday morning, they announced that 140 artisans will participate, who will be exhibiting and selling their products.
They emphasized that the objective of the Fair is to promote and spread the art and culture of the municipality of Amatenango del Valle, recognized nationally and internationally.
The artisan Paulina Jiménez Gómez, one of the organizers of this event, announced that workshops on natural ink, gastronomy, demonstration and exhibition of the pieces they make and a contest will be offered.
She acknowledged and thanked the drive of her colleague Juana Gómez Ramírez, who was the organizer of the first edition of the Fair and motivated more artisans to participate and organize the second in 2024.
She assured that they had not had the support of any authority, but on this occasion, they have the help of the authorities of the municipal council chaired by Salomón López Gordillo and other agencies.
She invited local, national and international visitors to come to the Barro Fair, where in addition to the exhibition of pieces, they will be able to taste the typical cuisine of Amatenango del Valle, workshops and marimba music.
The artisan added that all activities will be held in the Central Plaza of the municipality, with free admission, “it is our first experience in organizing this event, we invite you to learn about the work that we artisans do with the aim of promoting the economic and cultural development of our municipality.”
