During the prayer of Vespers during the solemnity of All Saints in the Basilica of Guadalupe, the kick-off was given for an initiative that seeks to contribute to the transmission of faith and the recognition of the elderly. The Cardinal Primate of Mexico, Aguiar Retes, reiterated the challenge of announcing the Gospel above all to the new generations as one of the central points of the synod on synodality.

An initiative that pays tribute to the elderly: this is the main objective of the “Memorial Papa Francisco”, which was officially launched in Mexico this Friday, November 1st during the prayer of Vespers in the Insigne and National Basilica of Guadalupe.

During the celebration, the Archbishop Primate of Mexico, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, stated that this project aims to help us, particularly parents and those who have already assumed their faith in the risen Christ, to understand that life does not end with death.

The cardinal referred to the mission of “encouraging parents” in transmitting the faith to their children, remembering those who transmitted it to us first. “They are already in the Father’s House. That is why we wanted this day to be the opening of the memorial, the day of all saints,” he explained. He also commented that many times “our people” think that he is referring to canonized saints: “Of course, they are the head, they are the example, they are a concrete way of achieving sanctity.” For this reason, he said that there were several relics in the temple.
