Students from a private university blocked traffic on the Mexico-Puebla highway towards Mexico City for nearly an hour, in the section belonging to the municipality of La Paz, due to alleged excessive tuition charges, which generated severe traffic chaos in the area.
According to the protesters, like the students of the same institution but from the campuses of Ixtapaluca, Chalco and Ecatepec, they are being charged unjustified fees, so they decided to go out into the streets to demand a response from the authorities.
The blockade took place on the stretch of highway that corresponds to the border area between the State of Mexico and Mexico City, which caused traffic to stop for just over an hour, generating discontent among motorists and public transport users, who in recent months have reported an increase in road closures.
If it’s not the trolleybus works, it’s a crash, or a demonstration, but there’s always a reason why they block our way. We can’t go on like this anymore, many people have lost their jobs because of the delays.
Municipal traffic officers and municipal police arrived at the scene to try to dissuade the young university students, who after half an hour opened two lanes for traffic and an hour later they completely left the road, around 10:00 a.m.
However, the line of vehicles was reported to be several kilometers long, reaching the stretch of road belonging to the municipality of Ixtapaluca, so until now the chaos continues, which is joined by the trolleybus works a few meters further ahead.
