Within 15 to 20 days, a total of 150 surveillance cameras will be installed by the municipal government as part of the work to reinforce security in the downtown area.
According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), there are currently about 60 surveillance cameras in the downtown area and on Revolución Avenue, by the municipality, and a similar number by the State Government.
Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales, head of the SSPC, said that they will increase video surveillance in the area, since part of Revolución has become a pedestrian area.
Security has been reinforced in the downtown area. In fact, we have a program that, by making it a pedestrian area, we have to reinforce security there. At this moment, we have a video surveillance system around the entire perimeter of Revolución. However, we have to extend it to the parallel streets, because there are still gaps to work on.”
The new PTZ cameras are 360 degrees and are being installed from the Torre de Agua Caliente to the entrance of the Revolution and they will also acquire motorcycles, which they are already making arrangements to buy.
Homicide in “La Cueva del Peludo”
Regarding the homicide that occurred near the bar “La Cueva del Peludo” last weekend, he said that the event occurred on public roads, so the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is already investigating the case.
He explained that the bar, which was closed by the city council, can reopen its doors if the fine is paid.
He recalled that the SSPC carries out strategic patrols in different points of the city during the hours when incidents are commonly recorded, however, he assured that they cannot maintain permanent surveillance.
In addition, he assured that if they do, there are then complaints that they are guarding a specific point.
