Mérida will be adorned with art and culture during the 18th edition of the traditional White Night, which for the first time will extend to neighborhoods and police stations in the south of the city. This expansion aims to offer a wide range of cultural and artistic activities, allowing all residents to enjoy and take pride in their cultural identity, according to Municipal President Cecilia Patrón Laviada.

During the official presentation of the schedule for White Eve and White Night 2024, it was announced that the events will take place on Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30. The festivities will feature 241 activities, with the participation of 585 local and international artists and 321 bazaar exhibitors.

At a press conference, Cecilia Patrón, accompanied by Karla Berrón Cámara, director of Identity and Culture of the City Council of Mérida, mentioned that this year’s activities will extend beyond the Historic Center to include neighborhoods and police stations. This expansion aims to unite citizens and celebrate Mérida’s rich cultural heritage.

Venues and Activities

A total of 98 venues across the city will host events, including music, theater, painting and sculpture exhibitions, dance, literature, workshops, circus arts, fashion shows, visual arts, gastronomy, children’s shows, and traditional Yucatecan trova.

“In this City Council, we work with social justice, seeking a level playing field for all, supporting and accompanying the wide and vast local talent,” said the Mayor.

Artistic Presentations

The artistic lineup includes groups such as the Juglares, Jenny and the Mexicats, Impulso circus show, I&I Sinfónico, Sonora Mill Colombian group, Grupo Recoveco from Veracruz, and the play “El aroma del tiempo: Arte en sitio.”

Public Spaces

Events will take place in eleven public spaces, including plazas, parks, seven museums, three theaters, twenty alternative forums, thirty-seven galleries, two academic institutions, and thirty restaurants.

Cultural Outreach

Cultural activities will reach neighborhoods such as Ciudad Caucel, Centro Cultural del Sur, Centro Municipal de Danza, and Centro Cultural Wallis. On the Eve, galleries will offer special tours along four thematic axes, including the neighborhoods of Ermita, Santiago, Santa Ana, and Paseo de Montejo to the Itzimná neighborhood.

“Today we will see new points where cultural events will take place, ensuring that no one in the police stations misses this great opportunity to experience our culture. Culture gives us identity and social cohesion, which is crucial for the city’s development,” said the Mayor.

Budget and Invitation

For this edition of La Noche Blanca, the City Council of Mérida will allocate 5 million pesos. Cecilia Patrón invited citizens to enjoy the cultural festival by visiting streets, parks, theaters, and galleries, strengthening community identity and unity.
