Guerrero authorities arrested a son of the former mayor of Taxco, Mario Figueroa Mundo, for his alleged responsibility in the crime of disappearance of persons committed by private individuals, in events that occurred in said municipality.

The detainee was identified as Mario “N”, who had an arrest warrant for the aforementioned crime, which was served on Tuesday, October 1, according to reports from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Mario “N” was arrested in the municipality of Cuernavaca, Morelos, after an operation deployed by Guerrero police. Once arrested, he was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities to clarify what happened.

The state Attorney General’s Office reported that in a second operation carried out in the municipality of Taxco de Alarcón, Jorge “N”, alias ‘Maicero’, was arrested, who like the son of the former mayor had an arrest warrant for disappearance of persons.

In a third operation that was carried out in the municipality of Iguala, also in Guerrero, the authorities arrested Vapsi “N”, a former municipal trustee who was wanted for her alleged responsibility in the crime of aggravated extortion in Teloloapan.

As of the publication of this note, Mario Figueroa Mundo has not spoken out about the arrest of his son or his alleged involvement in the crime of disappearance of persons.

Figueroa Mundo was elected as municipal president of Taxco in 2021 by the Fuerza por México party. On September 29, his term ended, because although he sought re-election in this year’s elections, the winner was Juan Andrés Vega Carranza of Morena.

In the municipality of Taxco, a crisis has been registered due to the disappearance of persons, a crime in which elements of the Secretariat of Public Security are also involved, as was demonstrated on August 28 of this year.

On that occasion, elements of the Army detained six municipal police officers in the facilities that house the Public Security, Traffic and Civil Protection departments of the municipality.

The detained officers were identified as Luis “N”, David “N”, Carlos “N”, Cristofer “N”, Alexis “N” and Ángel “N”. All of them were accused of being involved in the forced disappearance of a woman whose identity is reserved.

At the time, Figueroa Mundo claimed that the state Attorney General’s Office had not notified them about the actions deployed in the municipality. “The people participating in the mobilization detained women and men who are part of those three corporations, without informing the municipal government of the reasons for those actions or the place to which the local officers would be transferred,” he accused.

At the beginning of September, the six police officers were brought to trial. Meanwhile, federal and state forces took control of security in the municipality.
