Volaris airline inaugurated the flight between Querétaro and Monterrey.

The route will be operated through an A-320 with a capacity of 186 seats, with a daily frequency and double frequency on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, according to the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).

The airline has been operating flights in Querétaro since 2012, and since then it has mobilized more than 2.4 million clients, explained the senior head of Sales and Market Development at Volaris Mexico, Nanci Aidé Galaviz Lomelí.

With this new air venture, it is expected to influence business tourism that links both cities.

The general director of the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ), Jorge Gutiérrez de Velasco Rodríguez, pointed out that this connection comes within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the airport, which will be celebrated on November 28.

They forecast 2.2 million passengers.

The airport could close with almost 2.2 million passengers mobilized in 2024, said the secretary of Sedesu of Querétaro, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, during the announcement of the new flight.

In 2019, he said, the AIQ reached 1 million 192,000 passengers, a figure that is close to doubling at the end of the current year.

Regarding the operational capacities of the airport, he added, the capacity of the last waiting room was recently doubled; and although it will be necessary to continue growing – he said – currently the facility is more agile in receiving passengers.

In January, a new radar will begin operations, which will allow for more certainty in the operations of the airlines, as well as doubling the operational capacity.

Regarding the new air offer, the state secretary said that Volaris mobilizes almost 30% of the airport’s passengers.

Tourism Promotion

The director of Tourism Promotion of the state’s Tourism Secretariat, Rodrigo Ibarra Lozano, highlighted that the new route strengthens connectivity, but also the state’s relationship with one of the most dynamic cities in the country.

“Connectivity is undoubtedly one of the main characteristics that define the success of a tourist destination. A direct connection like the one we celebrate today between Querétaro and Monterrey, not only brings two cities closer, but also unites two leading regions in tourism, commerce and industry, creating an exchange of talent, ideas and experiences that benefits us all,” he said.

Currently, the director said, Querétaro receives more than 6.4 million overnight tourists per year, which generate an outflow of 21,000 million pesos.
