The Center for Advanced Research in Sustainable Tourism (STARC) carried out its third report called “Tourism Perspectives of the Mexican Caribbean”, where it was revealed that there is progress in the industry, but there is still much to do, because pre-pandemic levels are not yet reflected and therefore, there is a challenging scenario.
It was detailed that in the first 9 months of the year in the Mexican Caribbean there is a growth of 1.3 percent in air tourism, but in arrivals of inbound tourists by air there was a decrease from July to September of between minus 8.4 and minus 10.6 percent compared to 2023, in addition, the markets that registered a decrease are the United Kingdom, Colombia, France, Spain, Chile and Germany, although Canada and Argentina continue to grow.
It was also indicated that one of the factors that has generated effects on the activity is the impact that Mexican airlines have had due to the maintenance of the aircraft, although the Cancun International Airport (AIC) is one of the busiest terminals and the Tulum airfield is already in the Top Ten.
For the last four months of this year, it was reported that the slowdown in international air activity may continue, there will be a lack of seats due to the rise in prices, there is some relief due to the exchange rate with a weaker peso and the lack of promotion continues to be a competitive disadvantage.
