So far this year, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico has made a series of arrests of police officers in 12 municipalities of that State for alleged links with organized crime gangs.

The arrests made through operations of the Investigative Police with the collaboration of the Ministry of National Defense were carried out in Nicolás Romero, Tlatlaya, Coatepec Harinas, Aculco, Acambay and Tejupilco.

Operation Swarm: Hearings begin against officials
The investigations establish possible links of those who served as commissioners and deputy directors in said districts offering protection to criminal cells such as La Familia Michoacana and the Cartel Nueva Generación; in addition to extortion of merchants, kidnapping and homicides.

In May, Hugo “N”, deputy director of the Municipal Police of Nicolás Romero, was arrested inside the police station facilities after being accused of extortion and kidnapping crimes, linked to the New Generation Cartel and with possible participation in the crime of homicide, since in that town they found 10 lifeless bodies inside two graves, which also led to the arrest of 10 more municipal elements.

Last September, Eulises “N”, head of the Public Security Directorate of the municipality of Acambay, was arrested for ties to the New Generation Cartel; in that town, Agustín “N”, Public Security Commissioner of Temascalcingo, and his bodyguard named Juan Carlos “N” disappeared.

The investigations of the State of Mexico prosecutor’s office indicate that the missing commander and Eulises were linked to criminal cells.

The director of Public Security of Aculco, Carlos Alberto “N”, was arrested for extortion through an arrest warrant, the same action that was carried out against Luis Ángel “N”, director of Security of Tlatlaya, accused of express kidnapping and linked to a criminal group with operations in the south of the State of Mexico, Guerrero and Michoacán.

Meanwhile, due to accusations of extortion of merchants, Juan “N” was arrested by investigative agents of the prosecutor’s office. He worked as commissioner of Public Security of Coatepec Harinas.

The director of Public Security of Atlacomulco, Justo “N”, is still a fugitive from justice, since he has an arrest warrant.

In the most recent events, Operation Swarm was carried out last Friday, which resulted in the arrest of several public officials, allegedly for ties to organized crime. In the operation, led by federal authorities such as the National Guard and Sedena, as well as state authorities such as the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico, several arrest warrants were executed in municipalities such as Ixtapaluca, Tejupilco, Naucalpan, Amanalco and Tonatico.

The arrest of María Elena “N”, the mayor of Amanalco de Becerra, who won the elections in 2021 for the Movimiento Ciudadano party and who is in criminal proceedings along with six police commanders, stands out.
