The Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT), which is part of the Department of Business and Employment of the Generalitat, is organizing a trade mission to Mexico from next Monday to Friday to seek new tourism opportunities in the Mexican market and strengthen the positioning of Catalonia as a tourist destination.
According to the Department of Business and Employment in a statement this Sunday, 13 Catalan companies and entities are participating in the mission to present the Catalan offer of premium and cultural tourism, as well as meetings, incentives, conventions and fairs (MICE, in its English acronym).
The companies participating in the mission are: Warq Tourism, Central de reservations de Montserrat, Evenia Hotels, Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Hotel Claris & SPA 5*GL, Freixenet, Diputació de Barcelona, SEE network, across spain, dmc & leisure travel, The One Barcelona by H10 hotels, Casa Batlló, La Roca Village and Barcelona Art of Travel.
Mexican customers spend more than the average foreign tourist and brought 174,000 visitors to Catalonia in 2023, 0.9% of international tourists.
In total, Mexicans spent 308.5 million euros last year, which represents 1.5% of the spending of foreign visitors in Catalonia.
MEETINGS AND BUSINESS
The mission of the next few days will make it easier for Catalan tourism companies and entities to meet and do business with 135 operators and travel agents in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
Prior to the business meetings, the ACT is organizing a training session for participants with several experts who will explain the main characteristics and needs of tourists in the Mexican market to help them guide their meetings with potential clients.
The director of the ACT, Arantxa Calvera, has assured that Mexico is the priority market for Catalonia in Latin America for the years 2024 and 2025 because “the ties between Catalonia and Mexico are very close.”
Likewise, Calvera has stressed that the growth capacity of the Mexican market is very large, since Catalonia captures 17.6% of all tourists arriving from Mexico to the whole State.
DAILY SPENDING OF 255.2 EUROS
Of the Mexican tourists, their average daily spending stands out, at 255.2 euros, above the average of the foreign tourist who visits Catalonia, which makes it a profile with a high spending capacity.
For the ACT, the Mexican profile allows to increase the diversification of the Catalan tourist offer because they travel interested in culture, wine and gastronomy, nature activities and shopping, among others.
The summer concentration ratio of the Mexican market is 27%, which can contribute to de-seasonalizing tourist arrivals and distributing them throughout the year.
