Mexico’s consumer protection office issued a call on Saturday to review more than 100,000 vehicles of the Honda de Mexico and Acura brands for risks associated with possible mechanical failures.
In a statement, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) explained that the recall applies to 106,550 cars “whose fuel pump could expand under certain temperature conditions, decreasing the flow of gasoline.”
Profeco detailed that the vehicles on alert correspond to the Honda Accord model, years 2014-2016/2018-2020; Honda BR-V, year 2018; Honda City, years 2014-2019; Honda Civic, years 2018-2020; Honda CR-V, years 2012-2020.
As well as the Honda Fit models, years 2015-2019; Honda HR-V, 2018-2020; Honda Insight, 2019-2020; Honda Odyssey, 2013-2016/2018-2020; Honda Pilot, 2016/2018-2020.
The recall also includes the Acura Ilx, 2018-2020; Acura MDX, 2018-2020; Acura NSX, 2017-2018; Acura RDX, 2018-2020; and Acura TLX, 2018-2020.
“With the condition of the pump, the engine could not start or stop unexpectedly, increasing the risk of accidents. Therefore, the replacement of the pump is announced, at no cost to the affected people,” the entity noted.
The organization, which is charged with promoting and protecting consumer rights and interests, said that Honda and Acura will cover the repair costs.
It added that vehicle owners “will receive a notice to go to an Authorized Honda or Acura Automobile Dealer, where they can schedule an appointment.”
