In Tulancingo, the deadline for the registration of maguey producers will be extended until November 29, in order to join the state registry promoted by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hidalgo (Saderh).
Hugo Flores Jiménez, Secretary of the Countryside, of the Tulancingo City Council, reported that the collection of information seeks to cover the largest possible number of localities, which are known as original producers, but without being registered.
“Sometimes it makes it impossible for them to be part of state calls or activities inherent to that productive activity, so we make the approach” he detailed.
He stressed that what is collected will be channeled to Saderh in order to structure public policies in accordance with the current needs and requirements of that sector.
The Secretary of the Countryside estimated that maguey production is maintained in localities such as San Vidal, La Lagunilla, Santa María Asunción and the Ejido Tulancingo, but through the census he will be able to have a real panorama.
“In the near future we will be able to know which points of the municipality are directed to this productive vocation and in which other parts it has already become extinct or the productive regime has changed” stated Hugo Flores.
He recalled that in national statistics, Tulancingo is not part of any production record of this agave; however, at the state level, the municipality is the largest consumer of maguey leaves, mainly for the preparation of barbacoa.
