Historic Radio UdeG broadcast from Nevado de Colima

Histórica transmisión de Radio UdeG desde el Nevado de Colima

Three programs were broadcast live from the national park, with the purpose of contributing to environmental conservation
Last Monday, November 25, the Radio Universidad de Guadalajara station in Ciudad Guzmán, a member of the Radio UdeG Network, produced three radio programs from the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park, a historic event in radio broadcasting.

The three programs, directed by Isabel González, Antonio Solís and Elsa Bravo, were focused on the preservation of the natural area, the care of the wildlife that inhabits the area and the various commercial and cultural activities that take place during the season in Zapotlán El Grande; they were attended by José Villa Castillo, Director of the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park; Julio Alberto Vázquez Campos, wildlife rescuer in the southern region of Jalisco and Gerardo Bernabé, President of the Nevado de Colima and Adjacent Basins AC Board of Trustees, among others.

This historic event aimed to innovate in radio production, demonstrating the ability to broadcast from any point and highlighting the natural wealth of the park, as well as the wildlife rescue efforts carried out in the region, highlighting the importance of this Protected Natural Area as an environmental heritage.

Andrea Gutiérrez Vargas, Regional Deputy Director of Radio UdeG in Ciudad Guzmán, highlighted that these broadcasts are important to continue innovating and experimenting.

“Radio UdeG is to experiment and see what different things we can achieve. This broadcast was intended to make known everything that the Nevado de Colima National Park offers from the place, told from different voices. It is a place that is symbolically present in the work of the great artists who were born in this area, in addition to highlighting what this national treasure represents,” she said.

After several tests, in which the team that makes up the radio was accompanied by a hiker, they managed to locate the exact point where the pines and the peak of the volcano would frame the live transmission of the different programs.

“It was all very strategic. We love to take the radio out of the cabin and venture into the unknown. It was a very nice experience. We set up all the audio equipment, cameras and computers. We had already made transmissions outside, but always close; this dynamic and good coordination helped everything turn out in the best way. We received support from the University Center of the South (CUSur) with a vehicle that took us to the point we had selected,” he added.

Thanks to this experience, the radio station in Ciudad Guzmán is considering making more transmissions like this one, in order to reach all the points in the southern region of the state, promote them and show them through the radio.

“One of the challenges we face today is reaching all the municipalities that make up the south of our state. “We also need to find young voices, experiences and get closer to our listeners,” said Gutiérrez Vargas.

Through its social networks, Radio UdeG emphasized the importance of radio renewal and transmitting to listeners issues related to environmental protection, all this while they were surrounded by the popular landscapes that adorn the emblematic volcano, which could be viewed through @RadioUdeGGuzman enX and RadioUdeGGuzman on Facebook.

“The public radio of the University of Guadalajara reaffirms its mission to amplify voices, contribute to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, and promote learning and environmental awareness in its audience,” said Radio UdeG through a statement.
